Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has appointed Rainbo Paita to the Mining Minister portfolio following a Cabinet reshuffle.
Outgoing Mining Minister Wake Goi will now oversee the Transport and Civil Aviation Minister.
Goi will be in charge of securing the completion of airport and terminal projects at Boram, Tokua and Buka, and ongoing works at Wapenamanda, Kerema and Daru airports.
Paita is now set to play a crucial role in finalising the last necessary approvals for some of the major mining projects ramping up across PNG, including the Porgera and Wafi Golpu mines.
Paita was first elected to Parliament in 2017 as a member of the Papua and Niugini Union (PANGU) Party. He was reappointed as Minister for National Planning and Monitoring in 2020.
He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Papua New Guinea, graduating in 2011.
