The year 2024 marks the sixth year that ExxonMobil has supported wildlife conservation in Brazil.
Since 2019, the population of golden lion tamarins has nearly doubled thanks to key conservation efforts, including almost $US900,000 in support from ExxonMobil.
Population count of the tamarinds was up to 4800 in 2023 from 2500 in 2019.
Golden lion tamarinds are indigenous to the woodlands of Brazil. These mammals are known for their golden fur and for their friendly and playful temperament.
As well as supporting the Brazilian Golden Lion Tamarin Association, ExxonMobil also supports the Golden Lion Tamarin Ecological Park in Silva Jardim, Rio de Janerio.
The new cycle of the golden lion tamarin project consolidates the support to the preservation of the tamarins and the Atlantic Forest, as well as encourages the park to be open for visitors in order to engage people and local community with the importance of the conservation.
The company’s support for the Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado (AMLD) has already brought important milestones to the protection of the species.
ExxonMobil is committed to creating sustainable solutions that improve the quality of life and meet the evolving needs of society in order to protect people, the environment and the communities where the company operates.
