A total of 24 diamond drill holes have been completed at the Simberi gold mine as St Barbara gets its 2024–25 financial year (FY25) drilling program underway.
Drilling found “significant” intercepts along the Sorowar-Pigiput trend, including:
- 31m at 6.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 35 m,
- 45m at 1.5 g/t gold from 5m
- 25m at 1.9 g/t gold from 17m.
These are the first new results reported from the trend since June 2024 and will form part of the FY25 resource definition, exploration and sterilisation drill program at Simberi.
“The decision to move quickly to follow up on the FY24 discovery of the new Sorowar-Pigiput mineralised zone has been rewarded,” St Barbara managing director and chief executive officer Andrew Strelein said.
“During the December quarter we anticipate the return of assay results for the remainder of the 24 resource definition, exploration and sterilisation holes drilled to date at Sorowar-Pigiput trend and Pigibo North.
“The sterilisation and exploration holes have been proposed to close out the mineralisation boundaries and are important for the finalisation of pit designs and waste deposition plans.”
The drilling program includes approximately 4750m of resource definition drilling and 4250m of exploration and sterilisation drilling.
Drilling at Simberi is progressing ahead of schedule, with approximately 40 per cent of the program completed.
