The year 2024 is a milestone one for HMG as the company marks 65 years of delivering high-quality hydraulic cylinder reclamation, surface finishing and manufacturing services across a range of heavy industries.
From its inception, HMG has shown an ability to adapt and grow. This journey of evolution has seen the company expand from its humble beginnings in a small Albion workshop to its current 21,000 square metre facility in Pinkenba, Brisbane.
Another defining feature of HMG’s history is consistently embracing new technology and improving processes. The introduction of CNC machinery revolutionised HMG’s operational processes and significantly enhanced product quality while reducing lead times.
HMG general manager Shaun Kettlety said such innovations underscore HMG’s commitment to staying ahead in a competitive industry.
“Our research and development and engineering department are constantly looking at the latest technology available to us and how we can embrace that to enhance the product that we currently offer”, Kettlety said.
“We’re already at the forefront of the industry we’re in, and we’re going to continue that all the way into the future.”
Central to HMG’s success is its commitment to ethical business practices and strong customer relationships. This ethos has ensured steadfast dedication to a diverse clientele that spans from small local enterprises to major global mining corporations.
National sales manager Dan Ware said HMG has a very ethical approach to doing business with its customers.
“We change with our customers and help lead our customers so some of that change as well,” Ware said.
“While a lot has changed at HMG in 65 years, with new technology and improvements to productivity, it’s important to note what hasn’t changed in that 65 years – that is our commitment to our customers.
“From small businesses, right through to some of the largest mining companies in the world. It’s that commitment that underpins us as a company.”
The true essence of HMG lies in its people. The long tenures of many HMG employees, some exceeding three decades, reflect the supportive, engaging, and collaborative environment that the company prides itself on.
Kettlety said a strong sense of community not only fuels individual growth but is a vital ingredient in the company’s overall success and stability.
“It’s a very people-focused environment,” Kettlety said. “We have a very stable workforce of around 160 people and that stability is reflected in the company and how long it has been successfully operating.
“Over 25 per cent of our employees have been here more than a decade, many of those two or three decades so it’s a very positive environment and culture for people to build their careers.”
As HMG embarks on the next chapter of its journey, it carries forward the rich legacy of its past – a legacy characterised by a dedication to quality, and a focus on nurturing strong relationships both within the company and with its clients.
HMG’s story is a demonstration of how a business can thrive and adapt while maintaining core values and principles.
