Harmony Gold has invested in its interns’ careers at the Hidden Valley gold-silver mine, giving them the opportunity to engage in new learning programs.
Hidden Valley mine training superintendent – professional development Hudson Jeffery told Loop PNG that the program requires the interns to accumulate over 400 training hours.
“This comprehensive evaluation approach aims to not only certify interns based on theoretical knowledge but also validate their practical application and professionalism in a work setting,” Jeffery said.
“Interns are also encouraged to actively engage in the training program, demonstrating not only their dedication to learning but also their commitment to embodying positive workplace behaviour.”
The programs assess the interns across a variety of areas, including their initiative, communication skills, relationship with colleagues, and compliance to safety and quality of work.
Jeremiah Miall, a 2023 Hidden Valley intern, said the experience was fantastic.
“I am surrounded by an excellent team of professionals who are always eager to help me enhance my technical skills,” Miall said.
“With so much to learn, I am forever grateful for this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the platform Hidden Valley mine has provided for us. This internship has been a great learning process and we will forever be grateful.”
