The fourth quarter of 2023 has set K92 Mining up for a strong 2024, with record gold production of 39,101 ounces recorded.
K92 also reported quarterly production of over two million pounds of copper and 56,502 ounces of silver.
The record gold production was a positive sign for K92 as the company focuses on both the operation and expansion of its Kainantu gold mine.
“The fourth quarter represented another significant step forward for the Kainantu gold mine,” K92 chief executive officer and director John Lewins said.
“Notably, the record quarterly production was underpinned by strong operational fundamentals, with record ore tonnes processed, record ore tonnes mined, record total mined material (ore plus waste) and record development advance achieved – many of these were also significantly higher than previous records.”
There have also been a number of leadership changes within the company, with David Medilek being promoted to president and chief operating officer (COO) and Chris Kinver taking on the role of vice president projects and engineering.
“Over the past several years, David and Chris have made considerable contributions to the success of the company,” Lewins said. “They have demonstrated a strong commitment to the business, resourcefulness, plus a high level of capacity and potential to assume greater levels of responsibility.”
Medilek joined K92 in 2019 and most recently held the role of president. Medilek will take over the role of COO from departing head Warren Uyen.
Kinver, a mining engineer with approximately 20 years experience, also joined the company in 2019 and has held positions as mining manager and evaluation and studies manager.
“We see a very exciting period ahead for the company and look forward to the continued contribution to the success of K92 by David and Chris in their expanded roles,” Lewins said.
“I would also like to record my thanks, and that of the company, to Warren Uyen for his contributions to the success of the K92 over the last five years and wish him all the very best for the future.”
