The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) has welcomed a delegation from the Department of Mines in Botswana.
Visiting from Botswana was its director of mines Ofentse Ditsele, the principal mining surveyor Kabelo Ogaketse, the principal geo-information officer Pelonomi Matlotse, and geologist Ndiwo Lesetedi.
During the visit, MRA Managing Director Jerry Garry, welcomed the delegation and presented an overview of PNG’s mining industry, as well as the MRA and its functions.
The delegation also visited the MRA’s Mineral Production Data Hub and the core-shed.
The mission of the trip was for the representatives of Botswana’s Department of Mines to see the MRA’s tenements management system and gain information about its operations.
The delegates learned about the system with the view of using the same operation in their own department.
The MRA is a government body that provides regulatory services to companies holding exploration and mining tenements in PNG.
Since it was established in 2005, the MRA has assisted companies in abiding by legislation, as well as in providing overall advice based on expertise from work conducted throughout PNG.
The MRA is also a scientific institution that conducts surveys and explorations to understand better the geology and mineralisation of PNG. It is the custodian of all mineral and other earth sciences data in the Pacific nation.
