The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) has signed a new agreement with the China Geological Survey to cooperate in the field of geoscience.
The agreement was signed by MRA managing director Jerry Garry and Wang Tiangang of the Nianjing Institute of Geology and Minerals, and aims to provide a framework for the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge while improving the capability of geoscience research.
“I am very grateful that we have reached an understanding with the China Geological Survey which is one of the biggest institutions in China,” Garry said.
“They have a pool of expertise, they have a pool of technologies and the are constantly innovating more, to meet the challenges around them.”
There are a number of ways exchange and cooperation can be conducted through the agreement, including:
- exchanges of scientific and technical information
- exchanges of research, visits and knowledge
- the commencement of a joint project
- training for research fellows
- joint workshops, conferences and lectures.
MRA geoscientists will also have the ability to study at Chinese universities to further build their capacity.
The MRA has had a busy couple of months, most recently swearing in its new Special Procurement Committee of the National Procurement Commission.
