Ok Tedi Mining Limited’s (OTML) health services have been given the green light by the Papua New Guinea Medical Board.
Members of the PNG Medical Board visited OTML operations in September, granting the company a three-year license to provide health services both on site and in nearby regions.
The board commended OTML for its commitment to delivering healthcare services that meet the National Department of Health standards. This was a large factor in the board’s decision to grant OTML a three-year licence rather than the one-year extension it had requested.
“As a company, we want to be compliant in every aspect of our operations and health services is one of them,” OTML manager health services Raymond Singamis said.
“It’s an exciting journey because OTML will now be managing the hospital going forward, but will be outsourcing the labour hire to our local contractors as part of promoting local business content.”
OTML is the sole operator of the Tabubil Hospital – where it most recently rolled out its HPV screening and treatment program – which will be evaluated by the National Health Service Standards in November.
The company’s health services department is currently working on a three-year strategic plan to guide the development of its healthcare services, including modernising medical technology, introducing drone medical services and partnering with specialised healthcare providers.
