The first batch of qualified motor rewinders have graduated from Ok Tedi Mining’s (OTML) Infrastructure Support Services Rewind Shop.
The seven trainees have completed two years of training and assessment and have now been presented with their Recognition of Prior Learning certificates from Queensland TAFE under the guidance of OTML mentorship.
Motor rewinding is an important aspect servicing all operational areas of mining sector and each recipient demonstrated determination to expand their knowledge and skills in this field.
“Its part of OTML’s vision and obligation to up-skill more Papua New Guineans so we produce a qualified and trained workforce for the nation who will continue to contribute to the growing economy,” Infrastructure Support Services manager Akolo Kotange said.
OTML will continue to invest in its workforce by creating career paths and contributing to the crucial skills needed in the industry.
“As PNG is yet to establish a formal training program for the motor rewind trade, this program provides the recipients with the skills and knowledge to complete electrical motor repairs safely and efficiently and empowers them to impart those learnt skills onto our trainees,” OTML training and capability development manager Ian Strachan said.
