Author and Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) manager business improvement Gilbert Hamambi has donated 100 copies of his new book to students at the PNG University of Technology.
Hamambi presented copies of his book Graduate Trainees Practical Tips for Accelerated Learning in Reliability Engineering and Maintenance at Ok Tedi Mine during the orientation night for first-year students in the mechanical engineering department.
The donation fulfils a commitment made by OTML managing director and chief executive officer Kedi Ilimbit during the book launch in mid-2024.
The book is a valuable read for university students looking to begin careers in the mining industry. It introduces an accelerated learning framework built around five core process elements: understanding of a process, process variables, proper control of variables, process capacity, and continuous improvement.
“The book is not just about engineering, it’s about developing the mindset required to excel in any professional environment,” Hamambi said.
“It is written based on my practical experience in the industry. This book is not ‘heavy’ or ‘weighed down’ with engineering formulas. One must first grasp the concepts before proceeding to quantify the expected outcomes with parametric engineering formulas and calculations.”
The PNG University of Technology is currently working toward enhancing its engineering curriculum, with the books arriving at the perfect time to help facilitate.
In other OTML news, chairman Jeffrey Innes has announced his voluntary resignation.
OTML board director Ila Temu thanked Innes for his contribution to the company, commending him for his leadership and guidance. Temu will fill the role of acting board chairman until a permanent replacement is hired.
