Ok Tedi Mining’s (OTML) 2024 copper, gold and silver production has set the company up for a strong year.
The company produced 103,246 tonnes of copper, 265,830 ounces of gold, and 993,274 ounces of silver in 2024, which company head Kedi Ilimbit is attributing to the dedication of OTML’s workforce.
“2024 has been an extraordinary year of resilience, collaboration, and achievement for Ok Tedi,” Ilimbit said.
“These results reaffirm our commitment to creating value for all stakeholders, while upholding our responsibilities to the people of Papua New Guinea and future generations.”
And it’s not just production targets that OTML is celebrating. The company reported a revenue of K5.7 billion ($2.3 billion) for the year, contributing significantly to Papua New Guinea’s economy.
“Our unwavering commitment to responsible mining practices and sustainable development has delivered outstanding outcomes for stakeholders, employees, and the communities in which we operate,” Ilimbit said.
Like any major miner, OTML experienced its share of challenges in 2024, including fuel constraints, cargo shipment issues and operational demands.
However, with a combination of dedicated employees, optimised operational efficiency and a strong executive of the major processing plant shut down, Ilimbit said the team had come out stronger.
“Our focus on sustainable growth under the Growth 2050 framework ensures that we are well-positioned for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.
As 2025 begins, the major will be looking at its long-term sustainability goals, operational excellence and community partnerships.
