The PNG Prime Minister James Marape has commended ExxonMobil for its commitment and collaboration on the P’nyang LNG project.
The P’nyang gas field lies in the Western Province of PNG and is currently operated by ExxonMobil and its joint partners Ampolex, Oil Search, and Merlin Petroleum Company.
The commendation was made during the project’s Fiscal Stability Agreement signing this week at Government House in Konedobu.
Marape emphasised the importance of the signing as a testament to PNG’s dedication to fostering economic activity and sending a positive signal to investors in the mining sector.
“You were our anchor managing partner in the PNG LNG project, entering our country through that project in the early part of this millennium,” Marape said of ExxonMobil.
“And you fully understand the necessity for our country to benefit more from resource projects, proving yourselves as exemplary partners.”
In attendance at the ceremony was ExxonMobil chair and managing director Tera Shandro, who highlighted the signing as a landmark achievement for the P’nyang LNG project.
“This project is crucial for PNG, complementing the PNG LNG and Papua LNG projects. It will utilise our existing facilities at Caution Bay and foster new developments in the Western Province,” she said.
Western Province Governor Taboi Awi Yoto also recognised the efforts of ExxonMobil, noting the significant of the province’s involvement in project negotiations.
“This is unprecedented for provincial governments like ours to participate in the negotiation process of such a critical national resource project,” he said.
“I extend my gratitude to the PNG Government, Petroleum Minister Jimmy Maladina, ExxonMobil, and all stakeholders for this remarkable accomplishment.”
