Santos has launched a new Global Support Centre in PNG with the aim to leveraging local talent on the world stage.
The primary focus of the project will be enhancing PNG’s maintenance and engineering services.
The PNG Global Support Centre was officially launched by Prime Minister James Marape in Port Moresby this week.
The Centre will operate as a hub for providing critical support services to Santos’ worldwide operations, using a local, highly-skilled workforce.
In his keynote address, Marape thanked Santos for its commitment to investing in PNG citizens.
“We do acknowledge the global outreach Santos has in respect to mobilising not just capital and resources for projects in PNG but more importantly, mobilising opportunities for the Human Resources that work within us,” he said.
Santos executive vice president of Eastern Australia and PNG Brett Darley welcomed and thanked the Prime Minister for his presence in witnessing and officiating the milestone.
“Our intent is that this Global Support Centre will be a catalyst for employment opportunities, harnessing the potential of local talent and creating pathways for skills and leadership development for our workforce into the future,” he said.
The centre is the latest step in Santos’ commitment to supporting its local talent to thrive, after it was revealed in the Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s annual report that Santos pays men and women the same wage for the same roles.
The company has nearly doubled female representation in the field workforce over the last three years, and female representation in its non-field workforce is significantly higher than the general workforce at 39.2 per cent.
“Santos is committed to fostering gender equality and improving diversity and inclusion to unlock the potential of our people and our business. We will continue to take real and practical action to enable both our people and our company to thrive,” Santos chief executive officer and managing director Kevin Gallagher said.
