South Pacific Metals has uncovered more mineralised structures across its Ontenu NE prospect, with grades of up to 13.9 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.
The company’s latest rock chip assay results show geological structures similar to the zone it discovered in mid-September, but to the south.
They have revealed several narrow structures within a wider structural zone. Recorded assays include one showing 13.9 g/t gold and 388 g/t silver, and another showing 3.68 g/t gold and 302 g/t silver.
Another new structure, characterised as a 0.3m to 0.5m wide breccia/vein zone) includes one assay result of 3.36 g/t gold and 302 g/t silver.
The new structures are both northwest trending, and significantly expand the newly-discovered zone. They are part of a major corridor known as the Kainantu Transfer Zone, which also hosts the Kainantu gold copper mine, operated by K92 Mining.
Ontenu NE now has multiple epithermal gold-copper targets with at least six identified mineralsed structures mapped out. The company is planning a drilling campaign to test these targets, while further assays are also being conducted.
South Pacific Metals chief executive officer Timo Jauristo said the latest results have the company eager to learn even more about the geology of Ontenu NE and the wider Osena project.
“We are pleased by the continuing discovery of more of these mineralised structures,” he said.
“We believe these structures could represent the upper levels of deeper, higher grade epithermal gold-copper veins.
“Our drill planning is well underway and we are geared up to start drill testing these targets in the coming month.”
